Yeonje is a historical place of ancient country Geochilsanguk. This area was Geochilsanguk (Jangsanguk) in Tribal Country Era, Geochilsangun in Silla Era, Dongnae-gun in Tongil Silla Era, Dongnae-hyeon in Goryo Era, and Dongnae-dohobu Seomyeon in the later Joseon Era. The place belonged to Dongnae-gu in 1957, was separated as Yeonje-gu on March 1, 1995. The name of ‘Yeonje’ comes from the initial syllable of Yeonsan-dong and the second syllable of Geoje-dong. There are total 18 dongs, Yeonsan1-dong ~ Yeonsan9-dong and Geoje1-dong ~ Geoje4-dong, in Yeonje-gu
